DONATE -- Nine Tortured Elephants Urgently Need You
Please help us move nine abused elephants to freedom
I have just committed US$25,000 to move nine elephants who were severely abused by a safari company.
The elephants were torn away from their families to be trained to give elephant-back safaris to wealthy tourists. Imprisoned for six months to be "trained," the elephants were physically abused in order to break their spirit ... they were kept without water and shade in the blazing African sun ... and were found severely malnourished and suffering from deep, painful wounds.
Calves were even separated from their mothers - and deprived of the nourishing milk they'd need to grow strong. Sadly, I've just learned that one of the calves, a young male named Dumasani, has died from the severe abuse.
I'm reaching out to you to help us raise the US$25,000 we need to cover the cost of moving these elephants.
Please give immediately - we're hoping to move the elephants on October 27th, so we have less than a week.
My friend, when 83 elephants faced the firing squad in Malawi last June, IFAW's supporters came to the rescue and helped move the elephants out of harm's way and into a protected reserve.
Now I need you - the elephants need you - once again.
We urgently need to raise the funds to cover the transport of these elephants to safety. Your gift will help us:
* Provide veterinary treatment and medicine needed to sedate and move the elephants * Secure the specially-outfitted trucks and critical support vehicles * Feed and hydrate the elephants for the 4,000 km trip to their new home
The elephants will be moved to Hwange National Park, the largest protected preserve in Zimbabwe. Once there, they will live their lives out in safety, free and far from the chains of captivity and the beatings from their former captors.
Elephants are such social and emotional beings, with a very strong sense of family. They grieve, cry, play, and even appear to experience joy. No animal should ever suffer as they have, and I am sure you're just as outraged as I am at the pain these elephants had to endure.
Can you imagine the feeling of relief and joy they will experience when they first set foot in their spacious and protected new home?
Well YOU can make it happen.
When I first read their story of abuse and neglect - especially of the youngest calves - I just had to commit the US$25,000 needed to move them, even if it meant shifting funds from other campaigns to help with this emergency. Now I need your donation, not only to help move these elephants, but to help us continue to protect seals, whales, tigers, companion animals, and so many other animals in desperate need. Your gift will help us achieve our critical mission of helping animals, and will be used immediately and where it is needed most.
These elephants are counting on you. Please give today.
Thank you,
Fred O'Regan IFAW CEO
p.s. As you know, IFAW has had success in moving elephants before ... from our repopulation of 66 elephants to Meru National Park in Kenya ... to the 83 elephants saved from being shot in Malawi last June. We have the expertise and equipment - now we just need you. Please give now - any amount you can spare will make a real difference.
